Vampira graced the television weekly with her glamorous, gothic, appearance in 1954. Her ghastly small waist, arched brows, long black hair, and seductive screams made her an icon of B-movie horror and even of fashion today. Actress Maila Nurmi, donned some signature surreal shades as Vampira, originally designed by Edward Melcarth in 1947. The iconic glasses were hand sculpted from wood with glass tinted lenses, and have been replicated since. Bats were seen in fashion in the late 40s, and Bat and insect masks appeared in 1950, by Fernand Aubry, Coiffeur Visagiste, Paris.
