Jayne Mansfield was always known for her fierce style, and was often seen with the most fabulous cat eye glasses fit for a masquerade. Cat eye glasses were first seen in the early 1950’s, as the outside edges of the frames began to evolve, flaring upward, creating a feminine feline flair. The shapes became much more extravagant from earlier eyewear, with more attention placed on the details, such as diamond accents and asymmetrical patterns. Paulette Guinet was a French eyewear designer, whose designs created quite the spectacle with surrealism themes throughout. In fact, some of the most extravagant, elaborate, and ornate designs were French made. Egyptians were also a heavy inspiration behind the trend, with their highly sculpted and intricate eye paint. Transparent materials such as perspex and lucite were very popular materials seen in 1950's handbags. Clear envelope clutches adorned with rhinestones were often used at the prom, and just about any fancy occasion. It would only make sense to have these two historic and iconic trends together, for the ultimate revival in ready-to-wear vintage inspired fashion statements.
